The One With Batman And Robin, And The Dumplings

I went to collect my race package and noticed plenty of people heading for the same direction. I started seriously wondering why on earth so many runners had figured out that they would pick up their packages from the race office first thing in the morning... I stopped wondering when I saw Batman and Robin among them and it dawned on me that most of them were gathering for the students carnival procession and not for any marathon-related purpose... Oh, so that was the reason why the faculty felt so deserted and calm, and peaceful, and a great place to procrastin..., eee..., to work!

My new musical discovery:

The One On Monday

Turns out ice skating is like cycling - hard to forget, once you have got the hang of it. (The last time I had been ice skating was at least five years ago, but this time I managed not to run over anyone and stay vertical myself - a success!)
Pitty, my skating boots had fallen victim to me moving constantly out/in various places...

The One With The Dog That Rode The Tram

I was on a tram, heading for the city centre. The tram stopped, the door opened.
A dog got on.
The door closed. The dog sat down, calm but watchful.
The tram stopped again, the door opened - and the dog got off and ran its way.

Today I have learnt that there is a kind of beer which takes five years to make. Unfortunately, currently not possible to produce in Poland and won't be till the law about fermenting alcohol in wooden barrels is modified.

The One At Tour De Pologne

Due to the Tour de Pologne race, the main (and only reasonable) road from Wieliczka to Kraków was to be closed today. So I figured it would be easier to go to the city by bike. And it was.
It was also much, much funnier! While I was coming back to Wieliczka, the racers were cycling towards Kraków, and riding towards them was already an unusual experience. Some people came out to watch and support them - and some of them started pretending to support me: a man correcting me (you should turn around, it's the other way around!); some guys clapping (respect!); children shouting and cheering. They were all smiling and I was smiling, and it was the most hilarious 10km bike ride in my life.

The One In The Book Fortress

Visiting a library I got books from almost all departments (good thing they all have separate limits):
  • adutls'
  • chldren's
  • comic books'
  • foreign languages'
  • youth's (despite the fact that I am not really allowed to borrow books from there, since I am neither youth nor any pedagogical sciences student)
And a new library card, even though my old one was still in a good shape.

Incidentally, I made at least one person's day better on that occasion - a librarian smiled looking on my 'book lover' pendant and said she should get one too.

The most successful book hunt in ages.

And the best part is I do have time to read all that - Summer is here!
(Btw, is it weird that my dream holidays do not include me laying in a sand fortress on a beach, but me surrounded by a book fortress anywhere...?)

The One Where Resting Is Being Redefined

I do enjoy being busy all days - getting up early, working, studying and exercising (back to Irish dancing, started Scottish Highland dancing, still jogging from time to time or playing volleyball etc. and, of course, looking forward to the beginning of cycling season).
But, once in a while, one needs a day off from all that fun. Even if resting means catching up with tidying up, doing the washing-up and ironing, sewing, and other silly stuff you did not have time to take care of for a month. On the plus side: sleeping in, reading books, watching tons of favourite tv series episodes.

The One Where New Neighbours Make Your Day

I got up in the morning and headed for the bathroom. In there I heard music - not surprising, since bathroom is always the place where you get to know what is going at your neighbours'. At first, I thought the music was disco polo... Only after a while I figured it out - they were Christmas carols!

The One Where The Phone Keeps Ringing

My Dad called me in the morning.
My Sister followed in the afternoon.
My Mom - in the evening.

BTW, I am not a fan of being cared about too much. Yes, it is charming when a friend calls you to check if you have returned home safely. At the same time, it is annoying when you are expected to report your status every time you have gone out.
Tricky...

The One With The Favourite Movie

Lost in Translation

For a long, long time I had thought I could never be able to tell I had this one favourite film. When someone asked me I just always started listing titles, one after another, very quickly, in a random order. Up until the day I watched Lost in Translation.
And then I watched it again.
And again.
And then I went abroad and watched it after having been living in CPH for a few months.
And then I watched it after I had come back from Denmark.
And then I watched it while living in the Netherlands.
And then I watched it after having come back to Poland.
And today, for the first time, I watched it in a movie theatre.
And every time it left me speechless - every time for more and more reasons.
So, yes, I believe now I can say there is this one film for me that I can call my absolutely favourite.

Great score and soundtrack: music by Kevin Shields from My Bloody Valentine, Brian Reitzell, Air, and many more.
(Try listening after a sleepless night, when the Sun has not yet risen, but you can already see a hint of the dawn breaking.)

First time in a really long time I went out with a group of friends where I actually lowered the age average. Recently, it has usually been the other way around...

The One Where The Bed Must Be Made

The longest weekend, full of work and some fun. The kind when you get back home late at night only to sleep for four hours and then you get up only to rush out again. Three days in a row. Feels tired, but the good kind of tired.
And despite the fact that I had been aware I would be out all the time, I still made my bed - every time, every morning, every day. I just feel that if I cut myself some slack here, I will end up crossing more and more boundaries, which will result in a total mess - both literal and figurative.
So I make my bed - always.

Another one from Dead Can Dance:

The One With The Wall. Or How I Spent My Summer Vacation

I built a wall.
I have build a wall.
The wall in my friends' house-in-progress.
The wall that some day some one will lean on or hang a picture or sth.
In case you do not believe I have superpower: see proof.
It took me approximately five days of hard work.
But it feels... WOW!!

The One Where Karo Discovers Her Superpower

It turns out I can build walls. And I can do it well. My hands have been made to level brick blocks without aids such as spirit level or any other similar device.

If I do not make it in IT or as a chef, I can always become a bricklayer. Cool.

The One With No Shoes

I went shopping with a friend. In particular, I went shoe-shopping, since I was in a desperate need of new sandals, so finding those was my primary goal.

4 hours later...
No shoes. A pair of very nice jeans and an elegant shirt found instead. Which makes it quite a successful and fruitful hunt.

A little madness regarding sizes of cloths: 36 is supposed to be my actual size; the jeans I bought are 34, the shirt - 38 (usually, when such variations happen to me, it is exactly the other way around). Which explains pretty clearly why it takes sooo much time: you simply have to take to the fitting room two or three versions of each piece of clothing you want to try on.

I am done with shopping for another year!
Though I feel like I should go searching for trousers now - maybe I will find some shoes then...? Or, perhaps, a dress or a skirt...? (Which would also be fine, since there is no such thing as 'too many' when it comes to skirts or dresses).

The One Not In The Traffic Jam

YOU ARE NOT STUCK IN TRAFFIC.
YOU ARE TRAFFIC.
Get a bike. Break Free!
CYCLE CHIC (from Aggie)

On my way to work, on a bike, between 7 and 8 am.
I always pass by a huge market and the traffic around there usually gets quite big. But it was the first time that I was cycling there on a weekday and during rush hour, when, of course, the traffic gets even greater.
So it was also the first time when the cars were stuck whereas I, at the same time, was moving along the line of vehicles.
I wish you could see the smile on my face at that very moment.

The One On The Bench

Talking to a girl who - with regard to the hunger for books - seemed like a young me. Only less reticent. Much less.
Girl: Did C.S. Lewis get a Nobel Prize?
Karo: Did he? The Nobel Prize in Literature?
Girl: I don't know. But if he didn't - he should have. He was a genius!

The Truly Educational One

Today I have learnt:
  • I am not allergic to bee sting
(well, my allergies are much more sophisticated e.g. I am literally allergic to cleaning and trinket jewellery)
  • even if you are not allergic to bee sting, it still hurts as hell
(and, later on, this unpleasant feeling of numbness and itching continues)
  • you can travel through the whole city and miss that fact that there are some hay straws on your back
(which is actually a nice reminder of the moments you spent getting that straw clung to your shirt)
  • I can resist pizza
(it maybe be the case, however, that it is only true when it comes to a pizza that is not home-made)
  • I can not resist fudge
  • (home-made or bought - does not matter)

The Freckled One

I did not think it possible that today could be better than yesterday.
And yet it was - although all signs indicated it would be quite an ordeal.

And I have got freckles! Finally.
It was always my Mom and my Sister who got freckled in Summer and I always envied them. My turn!

The One That Ends Very Well

I left my place in the early morning today and set off to work, with a perspective of a long and boring (due to rain) day.
I ended up in the Cracow Opera House showing kids (and some adults as well) how to stand on a balloon (and not make it burst), skewer a balloon (and not make it burst), burn a balloon (and not make it burst). In return, I got a face painting with a bee - or I should rather say: the bee, as it was meant to picture Maya the Honeybee. (Afterwards, when I was coming back home, the painting on my face was a reason to smile for people around me. Which in turn made me smile).

Little Lord Fauntleroy

A musical (and it was the first time in my life I had a chance to see something of this genre). For children - clearly.
I enjoyed it anyway.

This is what you can call a proper Children's Day!
