The One With The Winter Swimming

8km run + winter swimming in an ice-cold river.

I guess it's about time I started doing foolish things. Better now - people will get used to and won't get surprised in the future, when I'm old(er).

Stay tuned.

The One With The Good Thing About Winter

There's just about one good thing about Winter - that you get to see more sunrises.

The One When You Speed Up

There are some things that can make you run faster.
Anger, for instance.
Or thunderstorm.

But I think anger wins this competition.

The One That Starts Before Dawn

!@#$%^&*! Getting up when the Sun has not yet come up (or has just risen, but is covered by heavy clouds, any way) - grrr... A tough month ahead.

The One At The Right Place

When the temperature rises higher than your natural body warmth, there are two places I love to hide at: an air-conditioned movie theatre or an old, thick-walled library. Either would provide refuge from the heat - but since the library is closed due to Summer holidays...

This Must Be The Place

A funny, frantic, kaleidoscopic, entertaining, surprising, surreal, improbable, road movie comedy.
A sad, calm, harmonious, steady, consistent, touching, truthful, domestic story drama.

Sean Penn as a wealthy former rock star, now bored and jaded in his retirement, who suddenly finds himself on a quest to find an ex-Nazi war criminal, his father's persecutor - simply brilliant. (Though, others do not fall behind the least bit.)

Nice soundtrack.

Shame

A story of a middle-aged New Yorker - a handsome and successful man, yet unsettled, unable to commit, full of self-disgust and self-contempt, lost in his shame . Told from a cold, distant and indifferent perspective. Which makes it all the more disturbing.
Great acting performance. Absorbing narrative - unlike with other movies of the kind, you get to see both sides at the same time, interweaving: proud, bold, daring outside; and shameful, restless inside.
The film asks more questions than it gives answers to.

The One Definitely Not In The City

I have always claimed that if I don't live in the city centre, then I don't care much how far from the centre that is - I have to commute any way, so what's the difference?
Moreover, for some time now I have been saying that I definitely prefer my current, further location - if compared to some housing areas that are a bit closer and strictly within the Cracow city boundaries.
Wieliczka poseses many advantages those city estates lack. Among them are the hills. No, they cannot be called mountains, but still - you can hike, up and down you can wander. And it is wild enough to find some woods and fields to walk across, you don't have to stick to the roads; at the same time you don't need to worry that you will get lost, if you sheer off the road.
So I took advantage of the weather and set off to explore the neighbourhood. Over the hills and far away...

Still waters still ice-covered, despite apparent Spring

Left: The Three Witches (or the point where I have absolutely no idea where I am)

Right: Doesn't look like city suburbs from where I am standing, does it?

Finally, we've got some directions!

Jewish Cemetery discovered! In the woods, buried in fallen leaves. Pretty charming.

(Oh, and I think I even got tanned. But I hadn't thought of applying sunscreen... Ouch!)

Stay tuned.

The One Without The Christmas Spirit

Me and my friends agree that there's some thing missing around now and that some thing is snow. You can feel it in the air. You get the impression that it's going to fall any minute now - so it feels quite weird when it doesn't. You literally experience the lack of it.
Additionally, the season for all the X-mas decorations has just opened. All in all, it's only a month away from Christmas, so it's not that bad I believe...
The point is that without snow you cannot really feel the Christmas is coming. It feels wrong.

Or maybe the Christmas spirit is here already but I'm simply unable to spot it...?
